Pet Wellness
It is our goal to promote pet wellness at all stages of their life.
Many pet owners know it's important to make sure
their puppies or kittens are properly vaccinated
and cared for when they are young but tend to
become more lax with their pet's health care as
they enter the adult years.
They then increase their emphasis on veterinary care again as their
pets become seniors. Listed below you will find a brief description
of pet care for all ages.
Puppy/Kitten Care: We strongly recommend that all young
pets receive vaccines starting at 6 to 8 weeks and that those vaccines
be boostered every 3 to 4 weeks until they reach the age of 5 months.
Around 3 months of age your pet should have baseline blood tests
performed and follow-up annual wellness blood tests through out
their adult years.
Because pets have their first heat at approximately 6 months of
age, we recommend that they be spayed or neutered at that time.
It is also important to have a fecal examination
to make sure your pets are free of internal
parasites. This should be done annually with the
regular physical examination and vaccines.
Adult Care: Both canine and feline pets
should be seen regularly by their veterinarian to
insure physical wellness. The annual wellness
blood tests would be performed during this visit.
Routine vaccines should be administered,
internal parasite exams done and a physical
examination to monitor weight, physical
conditioning and well being.
We recommend that routine blood work be done at
least once every two years for the first 7 years of
your pets life.
This will provide your veterinarian an internal look at your pet's
health and give them a "normal" baseline in determining any irregularities
in your pet's blood levels as they age.
Pet dental cleanings are also vital for your
pet's continued health and should be done at least
every 2 years.
Senior Wellness: When your pet reaches
the age of seven, they are almost 50 years old in
people terms, and it's time to do a comprehensive
physical examination complete with blood work,
urinalysis, x-rays, ECG tracing, internal parasite
exam and a tear test.
As the years pass, it will be important to do
blood work more often and to continue with annual
vaccines.
Keeping your pet in optimum health is not only
our job, it's our passion!
